We were asked to upgrade the Wi-Fi system at a large house in Bickley. They had a POE switch and floor points around the house which were connected to existing TP Link access points. These old TP Link systems needed an injector to provide the POE power and for some that didn’t have the injector they used standard power adapter into the access point. We recommend the Netgear WAX214 POE Access Points as they were an excellent Wi-Fi speed upgrade and a nice design. They came with no power adapters but a bracket that could be used to mount them to a wall.

We connected the Access points direct to a POE switch so we could upgrade the firmware, name the SSID and Wi-Fi password and also the name of the device on the network so it was easier to find them if they needed to be managed in future. After this we needed to make sure that the floor ports were connected to the POE switch.

All seemed to power on except the kitchen one which powered up but refused to give out any internet. After a bit of head scratching we removed the Ethernet wall port and checked the cable. Using a punch down tool it was possible to re do the cables one at a time. Low and behold after this we got 70Mbps.

There was also a gym about 100m at the top of the garden. The customer wanted Wi-Fi here for when he does a workout but because there was no 4G coverage he was unable to get anything of use. We installed some TP Link power adapters with Wi-Fi booster which seemed to connect but give out a poor internet signal.

After more head scratching we discovered that there were 5 CCTV cameras running off of another make of Powerline adapter. When these were removed the gym Wi-Fi gave out a decent 15Mbps and great streaming video.

We decided to replace these powerline adapters with more of the same model of TP Link so that everything was on the same network. After much pairing and rebooting everything worked well together so the CCTV and Gym Wi-Fi both worked well.
