This Dell Laptop was suffering from crashes and poor performance so it came in for a diagnosis. On running the built in diagnostics that Dell systems provide we were given an error code that told us that the hard drive was faulty. Once you see an error like this there is no point looking for any other reason for the problems the system has been experiencing. It is a clear hard drive replacement issue.

The existing SSD was an older style M2 (not NVMe) chip so we found a replacement 512GB Samsung M2 SSD. The Samsung SSD’s are generally a bit more expensive but a bit faster than standard SSD’s. Once fitted and Windows 10 installed we used a M2 USB convertor to get the old data off the faulty chip. Luckily we did not have any issues doing this as it wasn’t backed up.

We also upgraded the firmware on the Dell laptop to the latest version.
